Who We Are

Native Restoration and Management (NRM) is part of the award-winning Ecological Design Group, which is responsible for Arkansas’ many park and trail designs throughout the state. As part of their mission to design with sound ecology as a priority, NRM is responsible for restoration, maintenance, and management of lawns and eco-spaces with the same mission and passion for preserving natural spaces, as naturally and eco-friendly as possible.

What We Do

Native Restoration and Management is a unique landscape management business that creates and promotes biodiverse landscapes through ecological and organic land care.

NRM’s approach to plant management is simple – focus on the health of the soil and proper horticultural practices, and your landscape will thrive without the use of environmentally-harmful chemicals or noisy, gas-powered equipment.

Using ecological and organic land care management strategies that are based off science and observing plants and wildlife in their natural environment, we make every effort to manage clients’ properties to benefit humans, plants, water, and wildlife. We recognize the negative effects that synthetic chemicals have on the environment and humans, so we utilize organic and OMRI-listed herbicides and follow Northeast Organic Farmer’s Association (NOFA) Manual of Standards in Organic Land Care.

We recognize that landscapes and gardens are not just for ornamental value but serve as habitats for native pollinators and beneficial insects. These landscapes also serve as sites for pollinators, small mammals, and bird species to seek forage and clean water. Ecological and organic land care strategies such as the following are offered:

  • A site-specific, three-year ecological land care management plan (ELCMP)

  • Sustainable mulching through mulch mowing plant refuse in winter (“in-situ” mulching) returns valuable nutrients to the soil and plants. Pine straw mulch can also be added as an alternative.

  • Allowing selected areas of herbaceous plants to remain through winter to provide nesting spaces for cavity-nesting species of native pollinators

  • Utilizing battery-operated equipment that mitigates carbon emissions and contributes to a more positive experience for guests through the significant decrease in noise pollution

  • Positive invasive plant and insect identification ensures proper management strategies will be applied

  • Weed management through organic herbicide applications and removing weed flowers and seeds through cutting (rather than pulling) will mitigate soil disturbance and exposing weed seeds to the surface

  • Educational interpretation assistance through creating permanent or ephemeral signage to educate visitors, guests, and property owners on various natural elements such as ecological and organic land care benefits, insect/plant relationships, plant bios, etc.

Overall, NRM recognizes that the decisions we make in our landscapes will have either a positive or negative effect on the environment, local ecosystems, and our waterways. We hope we can assist your property in maintaining ecological landscapes that serve as beacons of communal gathering!

  • Excavating the root flare (or trunk flare) of trees and shrubs that have been improperly mulched (known as "volcano" mulching) to ensure healthier plant material for the future
