Carex radiata (Eastern Star Sedge)
Carex radiata, also known as Eastern Star Sedge, actively grows in the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool. The sedge forms thick clumps that will stand until they reach around 12” tall and then will droop as the seed begins to ripen. It can be grown in medium-moisture soils; it should be in an area that never totally dries.
Eastern Star Sedge has a fine texture, a clump-forming habit, dark color of the foliage, star-like perigynium, and a preference for full to partial shade, making it a perfect addition for any shady garden.
