Liatris spicata, also known as Dense Blazing Star, produces purple flower stalks late in the season after other blazing stars are finished blooming. It has tall flowering stalks that spring from grass-like tufts, with leaves thinning as the stem gets longer. The flowers are arranged in cylindrical flower spikes. These ‘spikes’ are covered in densely packed florets that open from the top down.
These are perfect if you want to attract more butterflies and other pollinators to your garden, as they are commonly used in butterfly gardens, water features, and rain gardens to do just that.
