Symphyotrichum oblongifolium (Aromatic Aster)

from $6.00

Symphyotrichum oblongifolium, also known as Aromatic Aster, is a late bloomer making it perfect for the fall. The light purple flowers when blooming and as they mature turn a reddish purple as they mature. They bloom in late October and early November.

Aromatic Aster enjoys full sun with well-drained soil and will reach a mature heigh and width of 3 feet. It will self propagate due to its wind-dispersed seeds. Native bees nest in the dead, hollow stems, so gardeners are encouraged to cut back the dead stems to anywhere from 12 to 24 inches and allow them to remain until they disintegrate themselves.
