Phlox pilosa, also known as Prairie Phlox, can vary in color from a light purple to a pale pink when blooming. These colorful blooms often attract native pollinators such as hummingbirds, and the flat shape of the flower petals allows for butterflies and other pollinators a perfect landing place.
The flowers typically bloom from May to July with a possible sparse rebloom in the fall. They tend to grow in clumps around 12-16 inches tall, although they can grow up to 24 inches in some circumstances. Prairie Phlox will grow in fertile, moderately dry to moist, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade, but grows best in full sun.
